Role Summary

Working at country-level, the Deputy Country Directorprovides strategic, operational, and managerial leadership to ensure effectiveprogramme implementation and support function performance. The role supportscountry strategy development, oversees programme coordination, strengthenssystems and compliance, and deputizes for the Country Director when required.The DCD plays a key role in donor engagement, external representation, andcross-team collaboration.                                                                                        

Workplace & Conditions

Position based in capital city or main operational hub, withfrequent travel to field sites, including remote locations with basic livingconditions.

Responsibilities:

• Portfolio Management: Ensure coordinated, high-qualityprogramme implementation underpinned by effective support services. Overseecross-departmental planning and operational coherence. Contribute to countrystrategy and proposal development, reporting and partnership management.Deputize for the CD as required.

• External Representation: Support Country Director inexternal engagement with authorities, partners, clusters, and donors. Activelyparticipate in coordination fora as required.

• Financial Management: Maintain oversight of spending andgrant management. Ensure appropriate compliance and controls are in place tomitigate risks of fraud or disallowances.

• Team Leadership & Culture: Line-manage senior staff.Promote a supportive, accountable, and inclusive work environment; ensureeffective communication, performance management, capacity building and supportthe team to work together effectively, modelling Medair’s values. Understandand communicate programme needs clearly to the support teams, fostering closecollaboration.

• Security Management: Manage security in the CountryDirector’s absence. Support Project Coordinators to update security plans/protocols and talk through security decisions. Manage incidents and supportstaff preparedness as required.

Educational background:

• University degree in Management, Development Studies,Business Administration, Public Health or a relevant technical field.

Experience:

• At least two years of post-qualification managementexperience in humanitarian or development programmes.

• Experience of team leadership and security management

• Proven experience working with donors, governmentofficials, and humanitarian coordination structures; understanding of CHS,Sphere, and humanitarian standards.
