People in need of humanitarian assistance
Displaced within Sudan
Medair returned to Sudan to provide humanitarian
assistance after serving from 2000-2012
Compounded crises have stretched the capacity of existing infrastructure and basic services in Sudan. Rising food prices, poor health infrastructure, and limited access to water and sanitation infrastructure paired with recurrent flooding, drought, and desertification contribute to the country’s cyclical state of food insecurity and prevents many from meeting their basic needs.
In November 2020, an escalating conflict in the Tigray region of Ethiopia began forcing tens of thousands of families from their homes; many sought refuge in Sudan. Medair teams are supporting Tunaydbah refugee camp where the United Nations is forecasting that up to 40,000 Ethiopian refugees could be homed in this rapidly expanding camp. High needs for food, water, sanitation, and hygiene support as well as improved access to health care has been identified.
How You Can Help
Your assistance provides foundational support as we respond to urgent needs of displaced and host communities across remote and underserved areas within Sudan. It provides COVID-19 health messaging and community health support, builds latrines and bathing shelters, and equips Medair teams to respond quickly to sudden needs. Your support is critical for Medair to expand its response and reach more families in Sudan.
