assistance after serving from 2000-2012
Compounded crises have stretched the capacity of existing infrastructure and basic services in Sudan. Health and education systems, as well as water and sanitation services were ill-equipped for rising needs, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Areas of Sudan continue to encounter frequent natural disasters — recurrent flooding, drought, and desertification. A fragile economy, characterized by high inflation and increased prices of essential goods, including food and fuel, contribute to the country’s cyclical state of food insecurity and prevents many from meeting their basic needs. Decades of conflict has also forced families from their homes, creating prominent humanitarian needs among Sudanese and refugee populations. The country hosts over a million refugees while nearly 2 million of its own citizens are internally displaced.
How You Can Help
Your assistance provides foundational support as we start-up our work to reach remote and underserved communities in Sudan. It provides COVID-19 health messaging and essential household items in displaced communities, and helps establish water and sanitation support and training in health facilities. It shows the people of Sudan that they are not forgotten, that their lives matter. Your support is critical for Medair to expand its aid and reach more families in Sudan.
