Lausanne, 7 December 2017 – Medair’s International Board of Trustees (IBOT) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Verboom as Medair’s new CEO, effective April 1, 2018. Jim Ingram will remain in a transitional role until April 30.

After 14 years with Medair, Jim Ingram notified the board this past summer of his decision to step down as CEO, providing the IBOT with ample time to conduct a thorough search process with many excellent candidates. “I care deeply for this organisation and its mission,” said Jim Ingram, “and I’m thrilled that the board has selected an experienced humanitarian leader like David Verboom as Medair’s new CEO.”

David began his career as business consultant in the corporate world. In 1996, he started his humanitarian career with Medair, first serving as Country Director in Sudan and then as Operations Director at Medair HQ. After leaving Medair, David worked for ZOA, World Vision, and the European Union (ECHO), serving in national and regional leadership roles. With 20 years of field-based humanitarian leadership experience, David has earned a strong reputation as an exceptional leader and an expert in the sector.

“We are very excited to welcome David Verboom back to Medair,” said Christina Bregy, IBOT Chair. “He provides just the right mix of experience and leadership skills to lead Medair into the future. He shares and cherishes our core values, and he knows first-hand the challenges of working in complex and unstable humanitarian environments. We believe that with David’s appointment we have found someone who can lead the organisation forward with renewed strength and unity to face the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.”

Reflecting on his appointment, David said: “I am honoured and excited to take up this important leadership position in Medair. Medair is a wonderful organisation with a proven track record of implementing high-quality, accountable, cost-efficient and innovative humanitarian interventions in response to major disasters anywhere in the world. I am committed to maintaining Medair’s unique focus on the most vulnerable communities in the world’s most devastated and remote areas.”
