Role Summary

The Country Project Coordinator provides strategic, operational, and security leadership for Medair’s activities inside Syria. The role oversees the implementation of multi-sector programming, ensures strong coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and maintains Medair’s presence and access in a highly complex and dynamic humanitarian environment. The Project Coordinator represents the organisation at country level and plays a critical role in team leadership, representation, fundraising, support with security management, and programme quality.

Project Overview 

Medair Syria implements emergency response interventions across multiple sectors, including MPCA, Health, and WASH. The programme supports crisis‑affected populations with life‑saving and early recovery assistance in a complex and evolving humanitarian environment.

Workplace & Conditions 

Field based position in Syria, primarily in Damascus

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of humanitarian programmes, ensuring interventions are relevant, timely, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Lead and develop the country team through recruitment, coaching, and performance management, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Represent Medair with authorities, donors, and coordination bodies, strengthening partnerships and contributing to collective humanitarian response efforts.
  • Support donor engagement and funding processes, including proposal development and reporting in collaboration with senior managers and GSO.
  • Oversee overall budget management for the programme, compliance, ensuring adherence to donor requirements, internal policies, and safe operational practices.  

This job description covers the main tasks that are anticipated. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications & Technical Competencies:  

  • At least 5 years post-qualification experience in a management position.  
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.  
  • Experience in dealing with donors and government officials.
  • Knowledge of Humanitarian Essentials, Sphere and Core Humanitarian Standards.  
  • Strong knowledge of UN and other humanitarian actors and of current humanitarian debates and issues.  

Behavioural Competencies:

  • Strong servant leadership skills with a consultative management style.
  • Advanced planning, assessment and analytical skills.  
  • Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues. 
  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels. 
  • Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required.
