Afghanistan
Three decades of violent conflict and insurrection have left Afghanistan as one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world.
Active in the country since 1996, Medair’s objective is to assist Afghanistan’s most vulnerable and isolated communities, and to address the needs of the chronically poor and those affected by disaster.
Medair is involved in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food aid, nutrition, and emergency response projects.
Somaliland
Violent conflict, political instability, debilitating drought, and high food prices have led Somalia/Somaliland into one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
The long list of deadly problems in the region includes high rates of child malnutrition, maternal mortality, and outbreaks of preventable disease.
In Somaliland, Medair works to improve access to life-saving nutrition services, as well as providing basic health services, clean water, proper sanitation, and emergency responses as needed.
South Sudan
South Sudan became the world’s newest country on 9 July 2011 upon its independence from Sudan. However, it is also one of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries, as it now works to recover from years of protracted conflict and underdevelopment.
Medair’s overall goal in South Sudan is to increase access to health care and nutrition services, safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, and, in cases of acute crisis, emergency relief services.
Haiti
Medair is intervening in Haiti in response to the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010. Our work is focused on providing shelter for earthquake-affected families in Jacmel and the surrounding rural areas.
Medair’s main focus is to provide shelter solutions that help people resettle and resume their normal livelihoods. We are working as quickly as possible to provide transitional shelters to homeless families and those forced to return to live in unsafe structures, to keep shelter from the rains.
