Application Process

New Relief Worker - ROC Application Process

“I’ve learned many different skills, and it’s also given me more confidence in myself, because I have accomplished some big jobs. It’s invaluable to work for a Christian organisation. You can share your concerns, and you can pray together. It’s so important to have that support. Rebecca Shakeshaft, Administration
  1. Please check (and then double-check!) that you qualify for the ROC. Medair receives thousands of applications every year from people who do not meet our selection criteria.
  2. Apply online for the ROC (Medair’s Relief and Rehabilitation Orientation Course). The link to apply is at the bottom of this page.
  3. Medair will review your application to confirm that you meet our selection criteria and our New Relief Worker profile. If you do, we will then send you a final application and ask for your references.
  4. If your application is successful, you will be asked to attend the ROC in Europe. You should budget €500 (Euro) for the ROC (which includes course fees, food, and accommodation), plus your personal travel costs to and from the ROC.
  5. Your ROC experience will be evaluated by Medair staff, and if successful, you will be immediately considered for any open New Relief Worker positions. Please note that attending the ROC does not guarantee placement.
  6. New Relief Workers may be given an assignment immediately upon completion of the ROC, or within the next few months. Medair will always try to place New Relief Workers in a suitable position within 12 months.
  7. At the ROC, applicants will be given the opportunity to request country and job position preferences. Medair always takes these preferences into account, but we cannot guarantee their fulfilment. In the end, we will normally come to an agreement on a placement for you according to how your overall profile best matches our current needs.
  8. As a New Relief Worker, you will attend a thorough briefing at our headquarters in Switzerland before leaving for your country programme. You will also attend an in-country briefing.
