Experienced Relief Workers - Application Process

The Application Process

  1. Please check that you qualify for this position. Medair will not consider or answer applicants whose profile does not match our recruitment criteria.

  2. Apply online for the position that interests you. The link to current field vacancies is at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can apply directly for the Medair ROC.

  3. Medair will review your application to confirm that you meet our selection criteria and our Experienced Relief Worker profile. If you do, we will then send you a final application form and ask for your references. 

  4. If your application is successful, you will be asked to attend the ROC (normally held in Europe):

      • For applicants with 18 months or more relief work experience (or 36 months development experience), Medair contributes at least 50 percent towards both personal travel costs and the €500 (Euro) course fee for the ROC (which includes room and board).
      • Applicants with less than 18 months relief work experience (or 36 months development experience) pay the full ROC fee of €500 (Euro), and personal travel costs to and from the ROC.

  5. You will attend a thorough briefing at our headquarters in Switzerland before leaving for your country programme. You will also attend an in-country briefing.

Before you apply - Be sure you qualify!

Experienced Relief Workers must meet all of these selection criteria: 

  • Committed Christians
  • Commitment to the Medair Values
  • Reflect the vision and values of Medair when interacting with team members, local staff, beneficiaries and external contacts
  • Minimum 12 months of humanitarian relief experience (or 24 months development experience)
  • Overseas intercultural experience
  • Competent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge of French (spoken and written) for French-speaking field programmes
  • Single or married (with no children under 18). If married, your spouse must also apply
  • Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions
  • Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit
