Zimbabwe
In 2008-2009, a deadly cholera outbreak struck in Zimbabwe, killing more than 4,000 people and affecting major urban areas that had become vulnerable because of degraded water plants, broken sewers, and uncollected waste.
First active in Zimbabwe from 2002 until 2004, Medair opened a new humanitarian programme in this crisis-affected country in January 2010. Medair’s main goal is to reduce the risk of water-related diseases for vulnerable people in urban and rural areas by rehabilitating the existing water-supply infrastructure.
We have recruited six Zimbabwean staff, three regional staff from Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, and one international staff to work on the Zimbabwe programme.
