Emergency Relief

  • 6,000 people received WASH kits and emergency hygiene promotion


Rehabilitation

  • 229 new flood-proof boreholes drilled and fitted with hand-pumps and drainage, and handed over to the community
  • 2 gravity-fed water-supply systems built (with hand-washing facilities) at a village school
  • 468 family latrines installed, 504 family latrines Eco-San adapted
  • 5 schools equipped with hand-washing facilities
  • 74 women’s associations and 262 hygiene volunteers trained in hygiene promotion
  • 21,740 adults and 10,198 children reached directly with hygiene promotion sessions
  • 169,530 people reached with hygiene promotion through 345 puppet show or film campaigns, plus 110,000 had access through radio
  • 22 WASH workshops undertaken about technical, management, and governance issues
  • 77 village WASH committees formed or supported in the management of WASH infrastructure
  • 20 local disaster and risk management committees, 10 communal committees, and 1 district committee coached to define a mitigation and preparedness plan for cyclone risks • 2 emergency simulations (1 at the district level, 1 at the village level)
  • 9 training workshops for disaster and risk management committees
  • 20 local committees given emergency supplies (jerry cans, plastic sheeting, boats for evacuation, etc.)

Rehabilitation

  • 7 flood-resistant refuge houses built (200 people per house)
  • 34 small bridges rehabilitated, 2 km of trenches dug, and 1 city waste management project set up to improve sanitation and decrease recurrent flooding in Maroantsetra

  • 1,540 open wells disinfected
  • 23,796 families (95,000 people) supplied with WASH kits
  • 47,500 people in 3 communes provided with emergency hygiene promotion


Rehabilitation

  • 118 new flood-proof boreholes drilled and fitted with hand-pumps and drainage (14,160 beneficiaries)
  • 1 gravity-fed water-supply system built for village (1,000 beneficiaries); 1 gravity-fed water-supply system in construction
  • 197 family latrines installed (beneficiaries: 2,410)
  • 53 women’s associations trained in hygiene promotion; another 170 hygiene volunteers trained
  • 15,000 adults taught in 219 hygiene sessions
  • 25,000 children taught in 118 school hygiene sessions; 270 school teachers trained
  • 66,000 people reached through 172 puppet or cinema hygiene promotion sessions

  • 25 displaced-person camps equipped with latrines and hand-washing facilities
  • 1,300 open wells disinfected
  • 2,410 homes and 123 tents disinfected to promote the return of displaced people
  • 15,049 water purification solutions distributed, along with 13,384 soaps
  • 50,000 people in 6 communes received emergency hygiene promotion, plus many more within the displaced person camps

Rehabilitation

  • 70 new flood-proof water points built, equipped with Canzee hand pumps
  • 250 family latrines installed
  • 6 communal authorities and 35 community associations trained in the management of water infrastructures
  • 35 women’s associations trained in hygiene promotion
  • 10,000 people reached by hygiene promotion activities from 18 campaigns
  • 4 emergency committees trained in cyclone management

  • Four schools equipped with latrines and safe water access
  • Training provided to water technicians, local enterprises, and communities
  • Hygiene training provided to schools, women’s associations, and village volunteers

Emergency Relief

  • Over 60 tonnes of emergency food supplies distributed to remote feeding centres
  • Emergency food programme started with UNICEF, WFP, and local partners
  • 17 feeding centres supported, plus four mobile feeding centres
  • Two food distributions to pregnant and elderly beneficiaries

 

Rehabilitation

  • AIDS prevention training provided
  • 15 village pharmacies opened and supplied
  • Hygiene promotion provided to schools and teachers
  • Distribution of 3,000 mosquito nets
Water & Sanitation

Emergency Relief

  • Disinfection of 440 wells in Ambanja
  • Water purification solutions and soaps distributed to 5,000 families
