Health Care That Nurtures and Nourishes
In vulnerable countries, millions lack the basic health support that most of us take for granted: food when we’re hungry, drugs when we’re sick, skilled care when women are pregnant. That’s why health care is so central to Medair’s work.
Primary health care is our main area of emphasis. We treat illnesses and infectious diseases, and we help prevent disease from spreading through vaccination campaigns and education that addresses root causes.
We work in countries with some of the highest rates of child and maternal mortality in the world. For this reason, safe motherhood programmes and medical and psychosocial support for mothers and children are key components of our life-saving work.
But Medair cannot treat everyone nor can we prevent disease in every community. Our mandate is not only to save lives in emergencies but also to build capacity from within so that, in the future, our help will no longer be needed. To this end, Medair staff devote great energy and time to the training and supervision of local medical staff.

This photo gallery shows images from a Medair malnutrition clinic in drought-stricken Burao, Somaliland—a region where more than 3.5 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid, and one in every six children suffers from malnutrition. Medair is on-the-ground providing life-saving nutritional aid for children under five.
