The water in the cup Noxhiam Keyo offers to her children is filthy, but they gulp it down nonetheless. She knows that it is only a matter of time before they succumb to sickness and diarrhoea. She has already lost two of her children like this.

But Noxhiam has no choice

In the remote pastoralist community of Kopuchi in northern Uganda where she lives, water is scarce and life is hard. For Noxhiam, finding water means crawling on her hands and knees under the thorn fence that protects her village, and then a back-breaking trek to the nearest river bed seven km away.

Her journey is fraught with danger. Armed warriors roam the countryside looking for easy victims to terrorise. Noxhiam knows women who have been raped, neighbours murdered. She has been robbed at gunpoint herself, her clothes stolen, her life threatened.

Yet just £15 could help give Noxhiam safe, clean water for the next 20 years

Noxhiam and her neighbours want Medair to help them sink a well in their village so they can have their own supply of clean water for life. Just one borehole would serve 2,500 people for the next 20 years at least. All it takes is one kind person like you to give the first gift of £15 now, and we’d have the beginnings of something really amazing.

Will you be that someone now?

With just £15 you could give Noxhiam’s children something she has struggled so hard to give them herself: a chance of survival. Please give a gift today to provide safe, clean water for years to come. Thank you.

“Many people are sick with stomach problems – mainly the children. Many of us have lost children that we know would still be here had there been clean water.”
